I Do Not Know the Man

I had hopes so high
If Messiah dies,
Well then so will i
But I'm bold and weak
Charge and then retreat
I proclaimed Him--
How could I now deny?

Chorus:
Oh, Jesus, forgive me!
Oh, can You forgive me?
Oh, Jesus, forgive me!
Oh, can You forgive me?
You can forgive me
But will You?

I Do Not Know the Man
Brian West

I do not know the Man
Can this really be happening?
What has become of His
Glorious plan?

Does it all tumble down?
Does His Kingdom have feet of clay
What did He say?
Is He crumbling now?
Or am I?

I had hopes so high
If Messiah dies,
Well then so will i
But I'm bold and weak
Charge and then retreat
I proclaimed Him--
How could I now deny?

Chorus:
Oh, Jesus, forgive me!
Oh, can You forgive me?
Oh, Jesus, forgive me!
Oh, can You forgive me?
You can forgive me
But will You?

I do not know the man
I thought I was the leader--
Look at Peter!
But instead I'm unstable as sand
If I'm not at His side in this
Hour of trial, my denial
Says I am a worm, not a man
Have mercy!

Where does all this go?
Can there still be hope
When He's brought so low?
If He's really God,
Can they spill His blood?
Oh, this morning feels like ages ago...

Turn (Judas’s Song)

Why am I following this Rabbi ‘cross the land,
When I could be somewhere else?
Perhaps it’s curiosity, telling me
To see it for myself

But as I’m following, I cannot understand
How it really fits together
The targets of His woes and blessings seem to flow,
And change just like the weather;
He changes like the weather

Turn to the words of life eternal,
Learn to trust the Speaker
Search if you must, but cling to
The Voice you heard, and find your healing

Turn (Judas' Song)
Brian West

Why am I following this Rabbi ‘cross the land,
When I could be somewhere else?
Perhaps it’s curiosity, telling me
To see it for myself

But as I’m following, I cannot understand
How it really fits together
The targets of His woes and blessings seem to flow,
And change just like the weather;
He changes like the weather

Turn to the words of life eternal,
Learn to trust the Speaker
Search if you must, but cling to
The Voice you heard, and find your healing . . . find your healing

Another night, another coded mystery
Rambles ‘round inside my head
I fill the air with my despair,
I feel the evil overwhelm and wish me dead

But I must scrutinize and grasp at every word
Until I put it all together
Convinced that I see through the lies
And all the ways He changes like the weather—I’m sure that I know better

Turn to the words of life eternal,
Learn to trust the Speaker
Search if you must, but cling to
The Voice you heard, and find your healing
Turn from the worry that swirls
Around your mind and find Him standing
Give up the chase and embrace
The limits of your understanding, your understanding

From all you say, you would betray
The very ground you’ve found to stand on,
To chase a wind-blown feather
Why can’t you just reach out and
Trust the One you so rashly abandoned,
Who held you so together,
Who could even change the weather

Turn to the words of life eternal,
Learn to trust the Speaker
Search if you must, but cling to
The Voice you heard, and find your healing
Turn from the worry that swirls
Around your mind and find Him standing
Give up the chase and embrace
The limits of your understanding, your understanding

Why am I following this Rabbi ‘cross the land,
When I could be somewhere else?

Divine (Last Supper)

One will deny Me, one will betray
The sheep will be scattered; all will run away
(The) Messiah must die; the Scriptures say it’s true
But first let Me share this meal here with you:

Chorus:
Take this bread, now broken, and drink this blessed wine
Whene’er you meet, remember Me,
The flesh and blood divine,

The kings and the tyrants rest on their violent commands
But I say the greatest have humble servant’s hands
If you really love me, live out the words that I’ve breathed
And the Spirit of Comfort will dwell in you, even as I leave

House of Confusion (Part One)

Jesus, standing so silent,
I command you to speak, on Israel’s oath:
Do you claim to be the Messiah,
The Son of God, or, incredibly, both?

Jesus:
You’ve forced me to speak; this is barely, and just barely, legal;
And you and I both know this “trial” is really a sham
And yet I will answer your question, so rooted in evil,
For all that you say that I AM, THAT I AM.

Joseph of Arimathea: I find this trial quite irregular...
Sanhedrin: Blasphemer!
Nicodemus: Aren't we ignoring procedure here?
Sanhedrin: Blasphemer!
Joseph of Arimathea: He may be just Who He claims, I fear...
Sanhedrin: WHAT?!!?

House of Confusion (Part One)
Brian West

Caiaphas:
Hear ye, hear ye, let the trial begin;
Bring the guilty, I mean the accuséd one, in
Let witnesses come, let us hear, let us see—
I’m sure we will find that their charges agree

Witnesses:
I think I remember… Now how did it go?
He spoke very fast… Very patient and slow
He said he was God, or His Son… Son of Man!
The Messiah, perhaps… Piece of bread, or a lamb…
It’s ridiculous, really… His claims were absurd!
Though He healed quite a few… Raised the dead with a word
But I’m sure he’s a fake… Just the “Fool of the Day”…
Isn’t that what you said… I was brought here to say?

Caiaphas:
These witnesses here are pathetic;
They aren’t helping us make our case
Perhaps it is time we inquire of the crime,
And we ask Jesus now, to his face

Jesus, standing so silent,
I command you to speak, on Israel’s oath:
Do you claim to be the Messiah,
The Son of God, or, incredibly, both?

Jesus:
You’ve forced me to speak; this is barely, and just barely, legal;

Caiaphas: What did I just hear you say?

If you believe that this man's the messiah,
Then you'd best be willing to lay down and die--
I'm sure Rome can find crosses for all who draw nigh
To this petty false prophet, this peddler of miracles,
Claiming divinity, sneezing out oracles,
Surely you don't believe this poor magician
Is Christ, who was sent from "our God"?

Sanhedrin: He's a blasphemer!
Caiaphas: Send him to Pilate--Away!
Sanhedrin: He's a blasphemer!
Caiaphas: There's nothing worse he could say
Sanhedrin: Such a blasphemer!
Caiaphas: Get this thing done before day,
Show this brigand who's in charge here...

Sanhedrin: He's a blasphemer!
Caiaphas: Send him to Pilate to die!
Sanhedrin: He's a blasphemer!
Caiaphas: He burns like a brand in my eye
Sanhedrin: Such a blasphemer!
Caiaphas: Soon even he won’t deny,
Soon he’ll admit who's in charge here...
Everyone knows who's in charge here...
Everyone knows who's in charge here!

House of Confusion (Part Two)

Caiaphas: Are you, O Pilate, a faithful, good servant of Caesar?
For this Jesus here makes a claim to be King of the Jews
If you would ignore him, you too would be guilty of treason
You’d best execute him, or you may be crucified, too

Pilate: I see your game—you’re determined to kill your Messiah [crucify, crucify, crucify!]
You’re just as barbaric and backward as any I’ve seen [crucify, crucify, crucify!]
So this time I’m cornered—you’ll get what your bloodthirst desires [crucify, crucify, crucify!]
But let the guilt fall upon you, and none upon me

House of Confusion (Part Two)
Brian West

Pilate: I see no reason to authorize this execution;
And this is the season to set one of your people free
So here’s my suggestion: this wise and unusual rabbi;
Your priests seem to hate him, but he seems quite harmless to me

[break of some kind to switch to the 5/4 or 10/8 time of the last segment…]

Crucify Jesus of Nazareth, crucify Jesus of Nazareth! Crucify! Crucify, crucify! Crucify!
Crucify Jesus of Nazareth, crucify Jesus of Nazareth! Crucify! Crucify, crucify! Crucify!

[Over singing of “crucify,” etc., Pilate shouts without melody:
I find no fault in this man. He is guiltless!
Rome demands justice, while you only demand blood!
I wash my hands of this!]

Nothing good can come out of Nazareth, nothing good can come out of Nazareth!
Crucify! Crucify, crucify! Crucify!
Crucify Jesus of Nothing Good, crucify Jesus of Nothing Good!
Crucify! Crucify, crucify! Crucify!
Crucify! [{spoken}crucify him!] Crucify, crucify! [{spoken}crucify him!] Crucify!
Crucify Jesus of Blasphemy…
Crucify Master of Blasphemy…
Crucify Teacher of Filthy Lies…
Crucify Unholy Sacrifice…

Jesus Clears the Temple

Chorus:
Jesus clears the temple;
Who knew it could be so unclean?
He takes the prophet’s mantle;
Is He the king he claims to be?

I’ve seen Him work miracles,
Speak power and peace;
Now, chasing these swindlers out,
That power again is released—throw out the thieves!

I’m an honest businessman;
I help keep community strong
By offering services we all need—
Is making a profit so wrong? Here I belong!

By offering services we all need—
Is making a profit so wrong? Here I belong!

This charlatan worries me,
That he could draw such a crowd
Maybe it’s time that we fashioned a crime
To chase “country-boy” here out of town—we must put him down!

Lord, this is Your most
Dang’rous act yet;
Take my advice, Just be quiet and nice
Or the priests will wring Your Rabbi neck—please keep it in check!

I Have Seen Him / He’s Risen

I didn’t have to touch Him,
I didn’t have to prove;
His eyes were full of comfort,
His voice able to soothe

No one could make me think it wasn’t true,
For I have seen Him, I have seen Him.

He is your Lord, and my Lord, yes, our Lord,
And though we have not seen Him,
Still we believe; we will believe
For the prophets and Moses, they testified
To all that we have seen,
And so we believe;
We choose to believe

I Have Seen Him / He's Risen
Brian West

I arrived there at the gravesite,
Just about the break of day
I was shocked and I was horrified —
The stone was rolled away.

When I looked to see the body,
Through the shadows underground,
The tomb was cold and empty;
My Lord could not be found.

So I ran to the disciples,
John and Peter, all alone
When I told them, they went running back
To make my word their own

And yes, they found it empty,
But not as I had feared;
The graveclothes let them know
He had not just disappeared

And soon my eyes were opened,
When I heard Him speak my name,
And joy lit up my heart,
Like a forest wrapped in flame.

He is your Lord,
He is my Lord,
and I have seen Him;
It is just as
The prophets told us,
And now I know

I didn’t have to touch Him,
I didn’t have to prove;
His eyes were full of comfort,
His voice able to soothe

No one could make me think it wasn’t true,
For I have seen Him, I have seen Him.

He is your Lord, and my Lord, yes, our Lord,
And though we have not seen Him,
Still we believe; we will believe
For the prophets and Moses, they testified
To all that we have seen,
And so we believe;
We choose to believe

To see what is real, though invisible;
We’re learning the nature of trust.
We taste and embrace your experience,
Though it happened not to us, it happened not to us

He’s risen, He’s risen, H a l l e l u j a h,
Emerged from the sea of death
He’s risen, He’s risen, H a l l e l u j a h,
All glory is His from beginning to end

He is your Lord, and my Lord, yes, our Lord,
And though not all have seen Him,
All can believe; we will believe

For the Word and the Spirit, still testify in joyful harmony
With what we believe; oh, how we believe;
We see what is real, though invisible;
We’re learning to open and trust.
The Spirit of God, through the sacred Word,
Is revealing the Truth to us;
We are shaped by the words we trust.

He’s risen, He’s risen, H a l l e l u j a h,
Emerged from the sea of death
He’s risen, He’s risen, H a l l e l u j a h,
All glory is His from beginning to end

He’s risen, He’s risen, H a l l e l u j a h,
Emerged from the sea of death
He’s risen, He’s risen, H a l l e l u j a h,
All glory is His from beginning to end

All glory is His from beginning to end;
All glory is His from beginning to end

All Might Believe (John 17)

Father, the time has come
To glorify Your Son,
So He can give glory back to You

For these sheep I plead,
And the ones they will lead to You;
Oh, fill them with joy and grace and truth

Chorus:
Oh, lead them to unity, join them to You and Me,
Healing, revealing, that all might believe
Help them to teach and pray, living out every day
All We have shown them, that all might believe

Help them to teach and pray, living out every day
All We have shown them, that all might believe

Take them not out of the world
Where the evil one’s banners unfurl
But simply protect them from his tempting pow’r

Before there was sky to call blue,
Or eyes for the Light to flow through
You knew and prepared them for this darkened hour . . . this darkened hour . . .

Sword Through My Soul (Mary at the Cross)

I saw it coming;
He showed me in His eyes
The holy spotless Lamb of God
Must choose to die, be sacrificed.

Chorus:
For I know the Messiah must be broken
For the souls that He loves to be made whole
But Truth cannot disguise a mother's pain:
A sword through my soul, a sword through my soul.

When He was young, I washed Him,
And held Him when He cried.
Now helplessly I stand and watch Him
Be crucified, be crucified.

Sword Through My Soul (Mary at the Cross)
Brian West (Vocals by Tabitha Hauser)

I didn't have to see the dying,
Didn't have to see the blood
I didn't have to watch this,
But knew I would; I knew I would.

I saw it coming;
He showed me in His eyes
The holy spotless Lamb of God
Must choose to die, be sacrificed.

Chorus:
For I know the Messiah must be broken
For the souls that He loves to be made whole
But Truth cannot disguise a mother's pain:
A sword through my soul, a sword through my soul.

When He was young, I washed Him,
And held Him when He cried.
Now helplessly I stand and watch Him
Be crucified, be crucified.

The heart of God has opened;
The wall of sin divides no more;
The Word of peace has been spoken
Forevermore, forevermore.

CHORUS

Bridge:
Confusion took the reins of my heart and mind;
I desp'rately reached out to take control.
But the hand of He who loves me held a plan much more divine
That would sanctify and heal my very soul.

Coming Back Broken (Peter’s Song)

Holy One who gives all of Israel a home,
Keep Your people, but please, won’t you leave me alone?
For You know when I sit down, You know when I stand;
You know every stumble I make
Like the soldiers surrounding me,
I feel Your hand
That won’t let me just run away--
You won’t let me just run away.

Chorus:
You are the air I breathe, trapping me,
tight to my skin;
and so I say, “go away,” and draw You within
And though I’ve denied You,
I fear that I’ll finally
Come back confessing my sin,
Coming back broken again.

Coming Back Broken
Brian West (Tabitha Travis on vocals)

Holy One who gives all of Israel a home,
Keep Your people, but please, won’t you leave me alone?
For You know when I sit down, You know when I stand;
You know every stumble I make
Like the soldiers surrounding me,
I feel Your hand
That won’t let me just run away--
You won’t let me just run away.

Chorus:
You are the air I breathe, trapping me,
tight to my skin;
and so I say, “go away,” and draw You within
And though I’ve denied You,
I fear that I’ll finally
Come back confessing my sin,
Coming back broken again.

I was so sure I knew the heart of Your plan,
To rule the world like a powerful, milit’ry man
Oh, but now I’m bewildered, confused, and alone,
Dreading the dawn of the day
Are you willingly giving up claim to Your throne?
I cannot make sense of Your ways,
The myst’ry entombed in Your gaze . . . Your gaze . . .

Those eyes, calling (for) me to step out on the sea;
Those eyes, shining as bright as the heavens can be;
Those eyes, crying, questioning Gethsemane;
Those eyes, haunting, look ‘cross the courtyard at me . . .

CHORUS x2
