Goodbye

Goodbye
Brian West

I know I'm getting on in years
Not many mornings left to go
I don't take any day for granted
Each is a precious gift, I know

But when another falls to shadows
It's time to grieve with those they've known
This plague has made it even harder
We bear our sadness so alone!

Chorus:
For Paradise awaits
All who sleep in You
One day we all will wake
Remade and named anew
But now we mourn,
So give us, Lord,
A chance to laugh and cry
To gather with Your people
And simply say goodbye

Our one son's health was always fragile
One organ failure from the grave
No covid took him down in battle
Twas cancer we could not contain

We held a brave memorial
His memory to honor true
But when the good's not good enough
We go on missing and make do

CHORUS

Additional verses:

When someone that we love is dying
The friends and family prepare
A word, a meal, or shared emotion
All meant to drive back our despair

But when we cannot be together
To cook and eat, or sing as one,
When common ways to cope are stolen,
Maybe the dark has finally won...

CHORUS

The years have drawn us all together
With joys and sorrows, wealth and woe
With so much loved and lived in common
Are we to lightly let it go?

We beg you, Lord, unleash Your mercy
Please heal our anger, dry our tears
Bring us in safety back together
Lord, let Your love flood out our fears

CHORUS
