The Awaited One

Topics:

Audio:

Lyrics:

From Abram and Sarai to Mary and Joseph,
Learning the hope begins at home
Asking the questions keeps us open;
We meet Creator God, no longer unknown

CHORUS
Fathers and Mothers lay down the path,
Answering questions children will ask
Sharing, preparing for the Awaited One
Harlots and holy, scoundrels and saints,
Ancestors’ stories of glory and pain

A Bigger Table

As my wife, Danielle, and I prepared to bring our youngest daughter, Katie, home from China this past March, we realized we would need a bigger table.  We had gone beyond the two kids that you can report to strangers without raising any eyebrows.

How Fragile My Faith

Audio:

Lyrics:

How fragile my faith; how precarious my prayers;
How daring my doubt, following my footsteps
Just a breath in front of God

It's been so many years ago--I made a promise to the sky
Shaking my small fist at Him, I never needed so to cry
"You have never left me, never let me get away,
But I have never wanted you to hold me, 'til today."

How fragile my faith; how precarious my prayers;
How daring my doubt, following my footsteps
Just a breath in front of God

Choose This Day

Lyrics:

The trees are without blossom; no fruit is on the vine
The harvest we were counting on will not come in this time
No food is on the table; no water in the well
If we survive this famine, oh, the stories we will tell

We may be driven far away from here;
We may be tempted to hold on to fear
But when our dreams have all gone up in smoke,
We refuse to give up hope because...

Getting to Know the Family

How large is this table?  It is large enough to seat everyone, across time and space, who calls Jesus Lord.  But right now, at this table, only four are seated here.  In another sense, this particular table serves as many as can fit in this room, as many as there are filled cups of juice here.

We read Jesus saying "This is my body, given for you."  YOU.  Was he just talking to the Twelve?  In that immediate moment, perhaps.  But we believe He was also speaking to His followers through the centuries, that He was speaking to us.

The Seed of the Chaos

Lyrics:

The seed of the chaos was the thought that he could be great
The long and lonely commute was where the slow and steady scheming took place
He kept it all in his head, and after weeks he felt the guarantee
In the end, the guards' mercy meant they only blew out both his knees

The prelude to the disenchantment was the daydream of fire
Until the heat on the stairs and in the kitchen was what he required
He felt alive and together; for a moment nothing could be wrong
But nothing could be right when long-suffering life and kids are gone
