Wash Me Awake
I walk through the wilderness, sink in the sand;
There's nobody left now who knows where I am
I'm stumbling, stumbling, heavy my load;
For a cool water's cup I'd give mountains of gold
I carefully open my backpack of sin,
And tilt back my head to pour sea water in
I know this will kill me, but what can I do?
I go blind in the desert just looking for You
If the rain comes (I know it will fall),
It will fill me (for Your grace, after all)
Is the power to wash me awake, making old things new;
With the power to wash me awake, You make all things new
I get tired of the questions; the answers get old;
Oh, I want to believe, but my heart's growing cold
The wise and the smug turn their backs on this faith;
With a laugh and a shrug, they walk calmly away
(BRIDGE)
Under Your gaze, I slowly lay down my ways
To put on the yoke that You have made...for me
Maybe this is what You mean by faith
I am covered with filth, far too dirty to be
In the presence of One so much higher than me
You act like you want to embrace my disease,
But a God who would wash me is hard to believe
When the rain comes (I know it will fall),
It will cleanse me (for Your grace, after all)
Is the power to wash me awake, making old things new;
When the rain comes (I know it will fall),
It will cleanse me (for Your grace, after all)
Is the power to wash me awake, making old things new;
With the power to wash me awake, You make all things new

Wash me Awake
I like the idea of the title, Washing us until we wak up to God's truth. I like the 6/8 meter. Also the usage of a consistent rhythm followed by single strum measures.
The music sounds like a lot of the same through out the song. This brings continuity to the song but also puts the ear asleep. Wake us up with some choral changes or different sounds.
Grace and peace, Derek
