Lyrics:

I didn't have to see the dying, didn't have to see the blood
I didn't have to watch this, but knew I would; I knew I would.

I saw it coming; He showed me in His eyes
The holy spotless Lamb of God must choose to die, be sacrificed.

For I know the Messiah must be broken
For the ones that He loves to be made whole
But Truth cannot disguise a mother's pain:
A sword through my soul, a sword through my soul.

When He was young, I washed Him, and held Him when He cried.
Now helplessly I stand and watch Him be crucified, be crucified.

The heart of God has opened; the wall of sin divides no more;
The Word of peace has been spoken forevermore, forevermore.

For I know the Messiah must be broken
For the ones that He loves to be made whole
But Truth cannot disguise a mother's pain:
A sword through my soul.

Confusion took the reins of my heart and mind;
I desp'rately looked for a place to hide.
But the hand of He who loves me held a plan much more divine
That would sanctify and heal me deep inside.

For I know the Messiah must be broken
For the ones that He loves to be made whole
But Truth cannot disguise a mother's pain:
A sword through my soul, a sword through my soul.

Sword Through My Soul

Hauntingly beautiful. This still makes me tear up. Tabitha was the perfect voice for this song.

Still one of my favorites! That goes for all Christian songs.

Grace and peace, Derek
