Lyrics:

How I miss the color of her smile,
The living light she'd pour into my day
A breathing of the air again,
A whisper to my trusted friend,
A gathering of life upon her face

I want to say this to the children:
Life is harder than you ever thought it would be.
But in the darkness of the pain,
Standing on the edge of hell,
What is true may still be hidden,
Like a book high on a shelf.
Persevere in love, my sons and daughters,
Do not leave the well.
You will find the living water
When you serve someone besides yourself

It wasn't even easy in our youth,
Clinging to each other and the Truth;
Misunderstandings, pain, and sin;
The temptation to just give in;
The Presence and the prayers to see us through.

I want to say this to the children:
Life is harder than you ever thought it would be.
But in the darkness of the pain,
Standing on the edge of hell,
What is true may still be hidden,
Like a book high on a shelf.
Persevere in love, my sons and daughters,
Do not leave the well.
You will find the living water
When you serve someone besides yourself

And when she could not stand;
Her voice could barely speak;
The cruel creeping of age
Making us so weak;
I did not walk away,
Though I was tempted to at times.
We grew in love each day,
Through a strength somehow divine

I want to say this to the children:
Life is harder than you ever thought it would be.
But in the darkness of the pain,
Standing on the edge of hell,
What is true may still be hidden,
Like a book high on a shelf.
Persevere in love, my sons and daughters,
Do not leave the well.
You will find the living water
When you serve someone besides yourself

Living Water

Good things : The soaring melody during the chorus brings life to the powerful words. Such an amazing biblical scene with great word painting. Awesome bridge/transition back to the chorus. Very deep words. First half of chorus works great with words and music.

Things to work on : Starting too many songs in a minor key puts what I call a 'Phoebe mood' on your music. Consider more Major keys with minor bridges or middle sections. Most of your words are powerfully deep so let them take us to a contemplative place rather than starting with a veiled intro. The Chorus is too long. Maybe you have it as Pre-chorus followed by the chorus but it still seems longs. I love the words and music of the chorus but it still seems too long. Your words remind me of Michael Card who is one of my favorite Christian singers. You and he both have songs that are Spiritually meaty and take a long time to disgust. Thank you for challenging me to listen more intently to the words of a song rather than just the overall message.

If this is the widower's song, does she get some words or is the whole song all sung by Jesus?

Grace and peace, Derek
